Step 1: How to Create a Navigation Menu in Shopify
Now I start building my navigation menu. This step helps me organize my store properly so customers can easily find collections, pages, and policies.
- First, I open my Shopify Dashboard.
- Then, I click on Content and go to Menus.
- After that, I click the Create Menu button to start a new menu.
This is where I begin building the structure of my store navigation.
Open the Shopify admin screen. “Content” is selected on the left side. Under it, “Menus” is highlighted. On the right side, there is a button that says “Create menu.”

On the next screen, I see options to set up the menu.

Name: Here, I give my menu a clear name. I usually name it based on where it will appear. For example, I name it “Header Menu” if I plan to use it for the top Shopify Navigation Menu. Clear names help me identify the menu later in the theme editor.

Add Menu Item: This option allows me to add links to the menu. I can add collections, pages, products, or legal policy pages. For my header menu, I usually add collection links, but the choice depends on what I want to show.

Select the menu creation screen with a field for the menu name at the top and a button that says “Add menu item.”

When I click on Add Menu Item, a small box appears with two fields.

Link: Here, I select where the menu item will lead. It can be a collection, a page, or a policy.

When I click inside the Link field, a drop-down menu appears with different options. Since I am adding collections to my header menu, I select Collections from the dropdown.
After selecting Collections, Shopify shows me a list of all the collections I have created. I simply choose the one I want to add.
The dropdown menu shows options like Collections, Pages, Products, and Policies. After clicking Collections, a list of collection names appears.

For example, I select “Sugar gummies Collection” as the link. For the label, I use the same name so it stays consistent. Then I click the checkmark on the right side to confirm the menu item. After that, I click the Save button to save my changes.
The menu item is added to the list with a small checkmark icon on the right side and the Save button in the right corner.

I repeat the same process to add more links to my header menu.

If I want to add web pages, I select Pages from the link dropdown.

If I want to add legal policy pages, I select Policies from the dropdown. For footer navigation, I create separate menus just like I created the Header Menu. For example, I can create one menu for Pages and another for Policies.

Now I have created three different menus: one for the header, one for pages, and one for policies. The final step is to assign these menus to the storefront in the theme editor. Once added, visitors can easily browse collections, read pages, and check policies without any confusion. Everything is now coming together, and my store navigation is becoming clean, organized, and user-friendly.
Step 2: How I Display Menus on My Storefront
Now that I have created all my menus, the next step is to display them on my storefront. This is where everything becomes visible to customers.
- First, I go to my Shopify Dashboard.
- Then, I click on Online Store and select Themes.
- After that, I click the Customize button to open the theme editor.
For this guide, I am using the Zeal Supplement Shopify Theme. Zeal is a modern and conversion-focused Shopify theme that supports flexible header layouts, dropdown menus, and structured footer blocks. If you are using the Zeal preset from the Shopify Theme Store, the steps below will match your layout.
The Zeal theme is visible as the active theme, and the “Customize” button is highlighted on the right.

Inside the theme editor, I look at the left sidebar and click on the Header section. Zeal allows full control over the header area, including logo placement, navigation style, sticky header option, and dropdown settings. The theme editor preview is on the right side, and the left panel shows “Header” selected under sections.

Next, find the Menu option inside the Header settings. There is a Select button next to it. Click Select, and a list of all the menus I created earlier appears. From the list, I chose my Header Menu for the top navigation. A pop-up window listing available menus such as Header Menu, Footer Menu, and Policies Menu.
After selecting the correct menu, I can instantly see it appear in the header preview of my storefront.
Zeal automatically formats the navigation based on the menu structure. If I create dropdown items, they will appear as hover dropdowns. To add a menu, I click the + Add Block button inside the footer area.

When I add the menu block, it appears in the footer preview, but it is empty at first.

After adding all the required footer menus, I click the Save button again to finalize everything.

Before finishing, I always preview my store on both desktop and mobile view inside the theme editor. I test every link to make sure it opens the correct page.
